Phuket Meseums Review
What? There is a museum in Phuket? Surely Phuket is a beach resort on the island .. so it might be worth putting in the museum? Well, guess what ... Phuket has a long and interesting history. Tourism really only started about 25 years ago and, of course, now tourism has a major influence on Phuket and tourism is the most important source of revenue Phuket. Thousands of people living in Phuket for tourism. Thailand come from all over the country to find work here, and of course also many foreigners (like me!) They come here to work or retire.Have been major changes, even in the 11 years I've been here - especially in terms of infrastructure and availability of delicacies such as shopping centers and DIY / Home Decor department store. Old history and culture can be a little difficult to find under a new layer of modernity, but it is there. Phuket is a large island and there is a large area covered with a quiet farming rubber plantations and pineapple plantations and shrimp farms. You can not see it if you stay in the main beach area, but if you rent a car and drive around, you suddenly see the old Phuket. Of course people here before the arrival of tourists! Phuket is really very rich because of the tin mining industry and rubber industry and fisheries and coconut / palm / pineapple / shrimp and the fact that Phuket is an important port. Enough about the story now ... This blog touches the old part of Phuket quite often. Over the years I have blogged about some of the museum where people can learn more about the history of Phuket.
Phuket Mining Museum
Tin mining played an important role in the history of Phuket and the museum has a lot of information and a large diorama that is associated with the era of tin mining and geological information and the street scene of the exercises represent old Phuket. We have been several times, our kids loved it, I thought it was very well done and cheap entrance - the only drawback is the location of foreign-back along the road between Loch Palm Golf Club and the British International School.
Tin mining industry based on Kathu Phuket between Phuket Town and Patong. In recent years, Kathu has had a 3-day street fair with lots of costumes and tin mining demonstrations as well.
Thalang National Museum
Thalang National Museum in Phuket open and provide a historical record over Phuket town from the native culture into the modern era. There is a large section devoted to the famous Phuket Heroines who joined the village to repel the invasion of Burma in 1785, an event that is remembered by a festival every March (which Heroines Festival Phuket). The museum is quite easy to find, north to the airport and turn right at the Heroines Monument, the museum is just 100 meters down the road.
(SMA) - Phuket Heroines Monument is seen by most tourists who come to Phuket as it is on the main road from the airport to the south most of the coastal areas.
Shell Museum Phuket
Open since 1997, a large collection of Phuket and around the world, shells of all shapes and sizes were collected by a local family. I first visited in March 2012, and is pretty good! Only 200 baht fee.Phuket Thai Hua School History Museum
Very interesting (for me!) And maintained museum, housed in the former Hua School of Thailand in the ancient city of Phuket. Thailand Hua was (and still is) a Chinese school in Thailand, the Chinese language is taught as a second major. It is important 100 years ago with all the Chinese people come to Phuket. And today, perhaps equally important in terms of business in Southeast Asia. The museum is filled with exhibits relating to the history and heritage Phuket school, old pictures. Sign 200 baht. It is easy to find on Krabi Road, just half a block west of Thalang Road, in the old city.
Chinpracha Home
And another just a block west of Thailand Hua you find a pair of old houses. One of them named Chinpracha House (or Baan Chinpracha) is also a museum. The owner still lives there (above), but the ground floor is a beautiful old house full of photos, old furniture, I love the tile as well. We visited for the first time in 2010 as part of a tour organized by the Phuket Heritage Trails. We went in October 2011 for another visit.

Phuket Post Office Museum
Just east of the old town Phuket is the central post office. There is a new building and next to the old post office in Phuket, which houses a small museum which will probably only interesting to stamp collectors or postal workers! However, admission is free and if you're going through, why not take a look!
Other Museums in Phuket
There are some peculiarities in Phuket that I have not blogged yet. In the city of Phuket, at least in the old town, just walking can feel like a museum. Check out the renovated old hotels such as memory or the On On Hotel Thavorn (have a room full of trash on the ground floor, which they call a museum) - or the old shops on Thalang road. Only steps in ancient Chinese herb shop and breathe deeply. Part of the old city, although some modern additions, such as a living museum.(Top) On On Hotel and herb shop on Thalang Road (Phuket Town)
Festival Phuket
Some festival in Phuket based on ancient traditions. I guarantee that if you are heading to a shelter during the Vegetarian Festival in Phuket feels a sense of immortality. Singing, incense, music, clothes .. this is the 21st century?

Phuket has a lot more history and culture are evident on the surface. A holiday on the beach in Phuket good, but I recommend some exploration, and the museum is a good place to start if someone wants to do more than eat and get sunburned also something ... to do on a rainy day!
