Phuket Waterfall reviews

Get Wild In Some Phuket Waterfall

Where to start ... Niagara - I like a waterfall. I never detoured in half of South America by bus and train to get from La Paz (Bolivia) to Iguazu truly remarkable fall in the border between Brazil and Argentina, and not far from the Paraguay either. Waterfalls are probably the most visited in the world.

I've been there too, and it was pretty good, a little boat ride on the Maid of the Mist. I tell you what - you can not do the boat ride in Iguazu! Certainly not when I was there in the rainy season. An unbelievable torrent of brown water from the forest fire. One of the most amazing places I have ever been and decent ride on the "Railway of Death" to get there.

Iguazu Falls
(above) Iguazu falls - not in Phuket

Sorry for the non-Phuket photos. But I really like a waterfall. Waterfall in Phuket seems to be mentioned in almost every guidebook and website (and blog), and if you like nature and want to get away from the majority of tourists who want to stay on the beach, then Phuket has a number of waterfalls, they are all pretty jungly and quiet, which well worth a visit as possible as part of a tour, or worth a look as you explore the back streets, but I would not say that you devote a day to a "Phuket Waterfall Tour" unless maybe you live in Saudia Arabia or state other dry and you never see waterfalls or forests.

Do not expect something like Iguazu, but you can get a nice little forest walk and perhaps a swim in fresh water running off the hill. Phuket has a hill that rises to more than 1700 feet above sea level, and yes, we get a little rain, too. And Phuket does have some waterfalls ....

Kathu Waterfall

Kathu Waterfall, Phuket
Kathu Waterfall
Just a few kilometers from where we live is the highest point in Phuket, over 540m above sea level, and close to this hill you have Kathu waterfall.

It's only a short drive from Patong beach to Phuket Kathu area. The road to the waterfall is a residential area, we have many friends in this way.

There is room to park at the end, you cross the bridge and began to walk a few steps .. .. and up and up ... you can ride for a long time and nice and sweaty! There are several waterfalls as you climb and the locals are always there playing and swimming.

Ton Sai Waterfall

Ton Sai Waterfall
Ton Sai Waterfall
In the northeast of the island of Phuket is a large green area designated as a national park. This is called Khao Phra Thaew, and on each side of the 1,000 feet of forest covered hills in the middle of two waterfalls.

There Ton Sai and Bang Pae the west side to the east. In between is a country quite wild - I have read that you can hike between the two, but a friend of mine (whose real match hill runner / marathoner / hiker) has done and tell me it was hard, and he was attacked by gibbon wild there!Ton Sai is easy to find - turn right at the traffic lights in Thalang City (right if you are heading north).

Follow the small road. I believe the entry is free after 03:00. Do not quote me on that. If not 200 Baht. There is a nature trail and a few more small fall to the forest roads. And on the way there you're really in Phuket countryside, so close to the main tourist beach but in another world.

Bang Pae Waterfall

And on the other side of the hills of Ton Sai is the Bang Pae Waterfall - and also the Gibbon Rehabilitation Project. Actually the area Bang Pae is one of our favorites in Phuket.

Many little streets, some rural scenery great, large areas of rubber plantations, pineapple fields, and a few restaurants that we like as well as Bang Pae Sea and Peang Prai which is just at the entrance to Bang Pae - again, no entrance fee here 200 Baht per person.
Note that the entrance fee is not going to Gibbon projects that you can visit for free, and a small donation appreciated there. Bang Pae is very popular with locals on weekends. There are several small restaurants just at the entrance, and many people come here to splash!

Sri Phang Nga National Park

Tamnang Waterfall at Sri Phang Nga National Park
Sri Phang Nga National Park
Back in 2012 we found a new place, and we visited again twice in 2013. We were driving back to Phuket from Khao Sok National Park and decided to seek Sri Phang Nga National Park.

A friend had posted a few photos on Facebook, it looks good and does not seem far from our route (but far enough to call a friend said and asked "where the **** is that?"!). Sri Phang Nga not in Phuket, it's in the province of Phang Nga, you have to drive from Khao Lak to Phuket via Takua Pa and then on north to Kuraburi. About 30 km from Takua Pa is turn and then you have about another 10km on the narrow road, into a dirt road .. no wonder it is not known! And here we find the waterfall was really great called Tamnang Waterfall, with fresh cold pool underneath filled with fish that would swim freely around you! Big!

Ton Prai Waterfall

We based ourselves in Khao Lak for several days in April / May 2013, and again a few months later and visited several waterfalls. Ton Prai is certainly worth a visit, and it was better after some rain.

In April, at the tail end of the dry season it is still quite good, but in July - wow! It is about 30km south of Khao Lak, or 30 km north of Sarasin bridge linking Phuket to Phang Nga. It is jungly climb up and down from about 800m from the visitor center to the waterfall.

Sa Nang Manora Forest Park

Sa Nang Manora Forest Park
Just a few km north of Phang Nga Town, Sa Nang Manora not have a big waterfall but it is a very nice relaxing place in the jungle with a few small waterfalls where local people want to relax. Great for picnics, splashing cold water on a hot day, it is easy to fit in a visit here if exploring the area Phang Nga.

Lampi Waterfall

Lampi Waterfall
Lampi Waterfall
Lampi not far from Ton Prai, just a little closer to Khao Lak. Amazingly, we never stopped here until 2014! Lampi bit more crowded than Ton Prai, because you can park very close to the waterfall, there is no climbing involved, plus there are little shops and restaurants with carpark and even a place to buy shorts swim :) And the waterfall is quite impressive as well. There is a pool to swim under a waterfall.

There are several small waterfalls others around Khao Lak, and I have also read about a small waterfall in the hills close to Kamala Beach and waterfalls in Manik (on the other side of the hill of Kathu waterfall) - we tried to find a time but only ended up driving a narrow track that requires 27 points a turn to go down again!

There is also a place called Raman Waterfall Park, located near Wat Suwan Kuha (shrine in a cave) near Phang Nga Town. We stopped once at Raman but did not have time to explore ... one day .. there is always more to explore in the area Phuket and not enough time !!!
